October 15 – World Rural Women’s Day

Holding such a holiday is one of the ways to support rural women, public recognition of their multifaceted role in society.

This is the day when society should pay attention to the difficult situation of working women of the village and properly assess their significant contribution to the development of the state.

Article 4  of the UN Declaration “On the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas”  states:

“States shall take all appropriate measures to eliminate all forms of discrimination against rural women and other women working in rural areas and to promote the expansion of their rights and opportunities…”.

In Ukraine, almost 7 million women live in rural areas. Food production and stable development of rural areas are mainly on their shoulders. Thanks to the work of village women, meat, milk, bread, butter, and other products appear on store shelves every day, hospitality services are provided, townspeople and their children join history, traditions, and crafts. Rural Women’s Day unites working women of all professions who live in rural areas.

The Union of Rural Green Tourism of Ukraine joins the greetings of the Ukrainian Rural Development Network to our rural women. We wish them strength and good health, warmth and cozy home hearth!
