On May 30, 2019, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Development of Gastronomic Tourism in Ukraine: Status, Challenges and Prospects of Implementation of European Experience” was held in Kyiv.
The purpose of the conference: highlighting problematic issues and prospects for the development of gastronomic tourism in Ukraine, transfer of innovative European experience of the system of geographical indications for the development of rural areas through gastronomic tourism, consolidation of the efforts of science and practice for the systematic development of gastronomic tourism on the basis of sustainable development, discussion of legal aspects of the regulation of gastronomic tourism , systems of geographical indications and problems of safety and quality of food products in Ukraine and in the world, promoting the integration of innovative experience into the educational process of higher education institutions.
At the conference, they talked, in particular, about geographical indications as a resource for the development and promotion of tourist destinations. In addition, a wide range of issues were discussed: from the theoretical foundations of gastronomic tourism, its legal aspects to the role of gastronomic tourism in the development of rural areas and in urban areas.
The result of the conference was also an agreement on the creation of a consortium of three universities – Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko, Odesa National Academy of Food Technologies and Odesa National Polytechnic University – for scientific and methodological support for the creation of the Roads of Wine and Taste of Danube Bessarabia, which are implemented as a pilot project within the framework of the EU Project “Supporting the Development of the System of Geographical Indications in Ukraine”.
