On October 13, the gastronomic and ethnographic festival “Boykiv Potato Pies” was held for the first time in the Dolynsk Region. The initiator of the launch of this kind of festival was the owner of the private estate “Darvaiv Kut” (Stary Mizun village), the head of the separate division of the Association for the Promotion of Rural Green Tourism in Ukraine in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, Oksana Kleban.
The festival was started with the aim of reviving Boyko customs and studying the culinary heritage. It is planned to hold such an event every year in autumn, after harvesting potatoes.
The guests of the festival had the opportunity to taste several ancient and even unusual dishes – dumplings in milk, cob porridge, snails in garlic sauce, sheep’s cheese, tokan and, of course, the main dish – pies made of grated tuber. There were also master classes and lectures-narratives about the benefits of herbal teas, mushrooms, sheep’s cheeses, honey and medical products. At the guests’ disposal were the “forge” attractions, where you could forge a commemorative coin with your own hands, and free rides on German-bred horses.
The festival was attended by all members of the separate unit of the Association for the Promotion of Rural Green Tourism Development in Ukraine in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region “Hospitable Boykivska Dolynshchyna”, as well as about 500 guests from the surrounding villages and districts.
All this wonderful event was accompanied by traditional Boykiv songs from the folk groups, to the fiery dances of the “triple musicians” and incredible stories by the host, the founder of the festival in the Poltava region “Borscht in a clay pot” Olena Shcherban.
